Introduction

We are off to.... is our Blog to allow family, friends, and others that are interested to follow us on our extended RV travels.

We aren't full time RVers but like to take extended trips of a month or more as often as we can. We prefer public agency campgrounds like State and National Parks, US Forest Service, etc. We do use some RV Parks if they are the closest or most convenient place to things we want to see or do.

We will attempt to provide information on the various campgrounds we stay in, things to do in the area, and pictures of what we see.

Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, ME (continued)

We have a correction to make.  Apparently we are not in Bar Harbor but in BAA-HAA-BAH.  I was told that it doesn't matter as no one listens to us anyway.  We are even, though, as I can't hear much of what they say anyway.

Thursday was more of a taking care of business day with Sadie to a groomer for a bath, us to a laundromat to wash clothes and Sadie's bed, and Linda had a haircut after lunch.  We had a nice lunch at the Thirsty Whale with Linda having another lobster roll while I had clam chowder and haddock fish and chips.  Very good!

The groomer said Sadie wouldn't be ready until about 4 pm so after lunch I dropped Linda off at the hair salon and took the clean laundry back to the trailer.  When I got in the trailer and Sadie wasn't there I was startled and even looked behind the bed for her.  I couldn't figure how she got out and then remembered she was at the groomer's getting a bath.  Oh well, I'm old enough for an occasional senior moment.

This is our site at Bar Harbor Campground which is the closest campground to the town of Bar Harbor.  There are many sites in the deep woods behind our trailer.  Some have no hookups and many have electric and water,  On the other side beyond the woods and closer to the ocean are several full hookup sites but they are the first to go.  So if you arrive early you have the best chance of securing one.  If we ever return we will use this campground,

On Friday we went to Jordan Pond and as we were early it was easy to find parking.  The restaurant doesn't open until 11:30am so the crowds hadn't arrived yet.

This is a view of Jordan Pond from the observation deck at Jordan Pond House.

On the trail to Jordan Pond.  It was quite windy and with the temperature below 60 degrees.  It was quite chilly.

As the Jordan Pond is a domestic water supply, no contact is allowed.  The mountains in the background are Bubble Rocks.  I had suggested another name for them and Linda just chuckled, acknowledging that is what they looked like.

The carriage trail bridge over the creek flowing out of Jordan Pond.

This was about the extent of the change to fall colors.  It will be another few weeks before the colors are best.

Next we went to Thunder Hole that had been fogged in when we were here about 5 years ago.  Today there were bright blue skies, calm seas and no wind.  It is on the other side of the mountains from Jordan Pond which blocked the wind.

Linda down getting close up shots of Thunder Hole.  We were told that about 5 years ago a family was washed off this point by a huge freak wave.  They were rescued but the park roped the area off for a while after that event.

Due to the calm seas and low tide there wasn't any thunder today

This is what creates the thunderous crashing waves, the cave under the rocks.  More water washes in than the space can hold and as it empties another wave comes crashing in.  The only place the water has to go is straight up.

A shot of Linda's driver.

Yes, we are having a great time and each new or revisited place offers something special we hadn't seen or done before.  Although we have had some rain, it hasn't affected anything we've wanted to do.  It was supposed to rain on Thursday but it was beautiful until we were pretty much done for the day and had returned to the trailer.  It let loose for about 30 minutes and then a couple of light showers after that.  Can't ask for anything better.

Now I know why Linda wanted to return to Thunder Hole, it has a gift shop!

Time for lunch again and it was back to the West Street Cafe.  Linda must have had enough lobster as she ordered scallops and I had a haddock sandwich and a bowl of clam chowder.  I love good clam chowder and order it wherever we go.  The chowder here has been good!

Yep, no visit is complete unless the local quilt shops have been thoroughly checked out.

Per Linda: I only found one, but it was so worth the visit.  I missed getting a picture of the outside but you can find them on Facebook at mdifabricate.  The place is called Fabricate. They not only carry a large selection of fabrics, but have a room for scrapbookers and a room with yarns.  I purchased two panels of fabric that looked like Maine to me; White Birch Cove.  The print has all the animals you'd expect to see in Maine...none of which we've seen.  Oh well.  Don't ask me what I plan to do with it. Not sure yet.  The two quilts below caught my eye.  The first one is a raffle item for their local guild. I plan to win the raffle.  It only takes one ticket, right?  Each block was made by a different member of their guild.  The quilt below that I loved.  I'd love to make a log cabin quilt and particularly liked this one because the blocks were on point, making it look different from the standard Log Cabin Quilt.  They didn't have a pattern.  If anyone knows what this pattern is, please let me know!!

Tomorrow we start our move south with a visit to Concord and Lexington, MA.  We are at the halfway point (days) and the days are getting shorter, seemingly faster each day.  Moving south may slow that down some but it will be dark by 5:30 or so before long.

When Linda returned from taking Sadie for a walk this morning she said fall was in the air as it was in the low 50s with clear blue skies.
