Introduction

We are off to.... is our Blog to allow family, friends, and others that are interested to follow us on our extended RV travels.

We aren't full time RVers but like to take extended trips of a month or more as often as we can. We prefer public agency campgrounds like State and National Parks, US Forest Service, etc. We do use some RV Parks if they are the closest or most convenient place to things we want to see or do.

We will attempt to provide information on the various campgrounds we stay in, things to do in the area, and pictures of what we see.

Palmyra, Niagara Falls, & Buffalo, NY

We are staying at Southwoods RV Resort in Byron, NY.  We chose this location to allow us to be near Palmyra, Niagara Falls and Buffalo, NY, all within about an hours drive in opposite directions.   I didn't get pictures of the RV Park but it is nice with ample room between sites, a nice pool and a number of activities.  The park is mostly permanent summer residents, a couple of rentals, some short term sites, onsite storage of trailers, and a group area.   It is quiet and well kept.

In 1959 my parents took my younger brother and me on a trip across the US to visit an Aunt in Virginia and a married sister in Harrisburg, PA.  On that trip we went to Palmyra, NY for the Hill Cumorah Pageant that is presented each July and to visit the historical church sites.  We included Palmyra in this trip so Linda could see the sites.

Tuesday, September 2nd.

Moroni Monument which we didn't make it all the way to as it was pouring rain.

Wednesday, September 3rd.

We restocked our supplies and then spent the afternoon at Niagara Falls.  Below is the American Falls with Horsehoe Falls in the far background.

Depending on the wind the mist would rise or fall exposing some of the rocks below;

On the Canada side the boats are called the Hornblower and the raincoats the passengers wear are red.

On the US side the boats are called the Maid of the Mist and the raincoats passengers wear are red. Nothing was said but it appears to still be the Redcoats and the Bluecoats.

Horseshoe Falls produced so much spray that much of the falls were hidden in the mist.  The better place to view the falls is from the Canadian side but when we returned from Canada on Monday it took us over an hour inching forward a car length at a time and we weren't ready to try another crossing.

Horseshoe Falls.

People go to Niagara to get married or honeymoon.  We saw two weddings and this was one of them.

A view of American Falls and the Rainbow Bridge to Canada.

Next we went to Buffalo to meet one of our sons-in-law's aunt and uncle for dinner.  Where else would you want to eat other than where Buffalo Wings originated?

It was a perfect end to a great day, having dinner with Maureen and Ron.  The Wings were great and so was the Roast Beef on Weck, another Buffalo original. Weck refers to the type bread, Kimmelweck,  is a white Kaiser roll with rye.  It was tasty!

Tomorrow we are off to Kingston, ON to the East Coast Rally of Northwood RV Owners Association (NROA) for three days and an opportunity to meet new people.
