Introduction

We are off to.... is our Blog to allow family, friends, and others that are interested to follow us on our extended RV travels.

We aren't full time RVers but like to take extended trips of a month or more as often as we can. We prefer public agency campgrounds like State and National Parks, US Forest Service, etc. We do use some RV Parks if they are the closest or most convenient place to things we want to see or do.

We will attempt to provide information on the various campgrounds we stay in, things to do in the area, and pictures of what we see.

June 10th & 11th, Sequim Bay SP, WA (Hurricane Ridge)

Monday, June 10th

Monday involved traveling from Cape Disappointment up along the coast following US 101 to Sequim Bay State Park. We left around 9 am and arrived about 3:30 pm. That included a stop for gas and groceries, and a stop at Kalaloch Beach for lunch.

Sequim, WA area.

The campground is situated with the full hookup sites right next to each other but is still pleasant. The non-hookup sites are down the hill and scattered in the trees and are quite nice with some backing up to Sequim Bay. The only downside to this State Park is that it is located right on US 101 and the accompanying traffic noise.

Standard site near the water.

Tuesday, June 11th

The forecast for Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park was for rain and snow with temperatures in the low 40s for the next several days. The couple camped next to us had gone up on Monday and all they could see were clouds and fog. After looking closely at the National Weather Service forecasts and the Park webcams we decided to take our chances today.

At the entrance station to the park we were told to expect snow flurries at the top. All the way up was mostly socked in but every once in a while we would see a clear spot above us and our hopes were raised. When we arrived at the top the clouds had lifted enough that we could see the surrounding mountains and most of the views we had hoped to see. It was not the spectacular views we've seen before on clear days but we appreciate what we are able to see.

We tried to take some of the trails but found that not far from the parking lot the trails were covered with snow.

After we had lunch someone had to follow a raven around until it was photographed. It didn't take much following as this raven came right up to people.

On the way back to the campground we went by what has always been refered to as "the log house" up the hill from Sequim. It was built around 1900 by my sister's mother-in-law's parents. I have fond memories of coming here as a youth with my sister and brother-in-law a couple of times. It is a special place. Later we brought our daughters here when they were about 10-12 years old so they could enjoy it as much as I did.

Back at the campground we checked out some of the trails. There are trails down to the water and the Discovery Trail goes right through the park. We were told the trail will eventually go from Port Townsend out to, or near Neah Bay.

I think Port Townsend is on the agenda for tomorrow and possibly a section of the Discovery Trail.

  1. You two look like you are having such a good time! Your picture taking and posting make me feel like I am right there. Thought the clouds may not be welcoming to you the pictures of them are very artistic. Thanks for the maps too, helps me keep perspective.

    Safe travel!
