The Cape Trail is about 5 miles round trip with the first half of the trail graveled and fairly easy walking. Most was downhill but not very steep. About halfway in the gravel trail ends and it becomes muddy with continuous tree roots to navigate. That necessitates taking things a little slower. There are a series of switchbacks that proceed down and then climb back up to the ridge. The trail is primarily on the ridge, a steep drop to the water on one side and hillside on the other. One misstep and you'd be swimming a few hundred feet below. That said, the views were fantastic.
Since our Alaska trip we have been captivated by the ravens.
The ferns were everywhere and there are truly an abundance of wildflowers wherever the sun can peek through.
Views along the cliffs.
Wildflowers.
View south to Cape Kiwanda.
Linda at the point. We enjoyed visiting with others that had hiked out to the point. We were ahead of most when we started but most finished before us. We just took our time and enjoyed taking it all in. We tried to blame Sadie for slowing us down but she wasn't having any of that.
I am sooooo done with this day!
Tomorrow we move on to Fort Stevens with a stop at Fort Clatsop Nat'l Monument. The next few days we will be checking out the Lewis & Clark historic sites.
The water is very jade green, love that color. The flowers and foliage are a nice touch too. Love how much you hike and walk. Thank you for sharing your travels with us again. I am really enjoying the ocean views.
